FATACIL, the Feira de Artesanato, Turismo, Agricultura, Comercio e Industria de Lagoa, is the Algarve's largest and most diverse annual trade fair. Held over ten days in August on a permanent fairground site in the municipality of Lagoa, FATACIL combines elements of an agricultural show, craft fair, industrial exhibition, food festival and entertainment venue in a format that has made it one of the region's most popular summer events since its founding in 1979.

The fair occupies extensive grounds that accommodate hundreds of exhibitors across multiple sectors. The agricultural section features livestock displays, machinery demonstrations and exhibitions of Algarve produce including citrus fruits, almonds, carob, figs, olive oil, honey and wine. The craft section showcases traditional Algarve artisanship, including pottery from the Porches tradition, copper cataplana pots, cork products, esparto weaving and the decorative chimney models that represent the Algarve's vernacular architecture.

The industrial and commercial sections present local and national businesses, from construction and real estate companies to food producers and technology firms. Tourism operators promote Algarve destinations and activities, and regional municipalities use the fair to showcase their attractions. The result is a comprehensive snapshot of the Algarve's economy, from its traditional agricultural roots to its modern service-based sectors.

Food and drink are integral to the FATACIL experience. Restaurants and food stalls across the fairground serve regional specialities including cataplana, grilled sardines, cabbage soup, chourico assado (flame-grilled sausage) and the full range of Algarve sweets. Wine producers from the Lagoa DOC region are prominently represented, and medronho tastings are a popular feature.

Evening entertainment includes live concerts on a large main stage, with the programme mixing Portuguese pop and rock acts with traditional fado and folk performances. The concerts draw large crowds and extend the fair's appeal beyond its daytime exhibition function.

FATACIL attracts over 200,000 visitors during its ten-day run, making it one of the most-attended events in the Algarve. For local businesses and producers, it provides a valuable commercial platform. For visitors, it offers an engaging and accessible introduction to the breadth of Algarve culture, industry and gastronomy.
